? The centre on Wednesday named M Rajeshwar Rao as new deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India, it said in a notification. He is currently appointed as the executive director of RBI. The Appointment Committee of the Union cabinet cleared the appointment, stated the notification. In his new position, Rao succeed NS Vishwanathan as the fourth deputy governor.

? Axis Bank in partnership with India’s full-service carrier, Vistara launched a Co-Branded Forex Card, ‘Axis Bank Club Vistara Forex Card’ to cater to the needs of international travellers. This is the 1st-ever collaboration by a bank and an Indian airline for a co-branded forex card.

? Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer Doudna are awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2020 for discovering one of gene technology’s sharpest tools: the CRISPR/Cas9 genetic scissors. Researchers can use these to change the DNA of animals, plants and microorganisms with extremely high precision.

? Union Minister Piyush Goyal has been given additional charge of the Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. The additional responsibility was given by President Ram Nath Kovind on October 9, 2020.

? China has formally joined the COVAX facility, a global initiative for the COVID-19 vaccine, by signing an agreement with Gavi Vaccine Alliance on October 8, 2020.

? India successfully test-fired the ‘Rudram’ Anti-Radiation Missile on October 9, 2020. The missile has been designed and developed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

? Now India’s premium Cotton would be known as ‘Kasturi Cotton’ in the world cotton Trade. The Kasturi Cotton brand will represent Whiteness, Brightness, Softness, Purity, Luster, Uniqueness and Indianness. India is the 2nd largest cotton  producer and the largest consumer of cotton in the world.
