? The WHO-recognised World Cotton Day (WCD) is observed on 7th October since 2019 to celebrate the international cotton industry and its contribution to communities and the global economy.. The day was inaugurated by the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva on October 7, 2019.

? Dinesh Kumar Khara has assumed charge as the new Chairman of State Bank of India, the country’s largest lender. He has taken over from Rajnish Kumar, who superannuated on October 7, 2020.

? The Union Cabinet under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 7, 2020, approved the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of cyber-security between India and Japan.

? Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat approved Uttarakhand Bhasha Sansthan (State Language Centre) at Gairsain and sanctioned a budget of Rs 50 lakh for purchase of land.

? The Gujarat government on October 8, 2020, launched phase 1 of the ‘Digital Seva Setu’ programme for the rural areas. Under this, 3500 village panchayats in the state have been connected by 100 Mbps optical fibre network, it will further facilitate the online availability of public services.

? NVIDIA said on Monday that the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDACwill commission India’s largest HPCAI supercomputer, ‘PARAM Siddhi – AI‘. This initiative will put India among the top countries in global AI supercomputing research and innovation, it said.
