? The Supreme Court on January 6, 2020 upheld the West Bengal Madrasa Service Commission Act, 2008. This paves the way for appointment of teachers in the madrassas in the state.

? International Braille Day is observed on January 4 every year. This day is celebrated on the occasion of the birthday of Louis Braille. According to the United Nations, about 39 million people are blind in the world.

? The Best Feature Film award (Drama) was given to ‘1917’ while the Best Actor Award was given to Joaquin Phoenix for ‘Joker’. The first Golden Globe Award was given in 1944. This time 77th edition of this award was held.

? Former Prime Minister and Military General Umaro Cissoko has recently been elected as the President of Guinea-Bissau. He will replace José Mário Vaz. He won the presidential election with 53.55 percent of votes.

? The film 1917 won the’Best Picture-Drama’ award, Renée Zellweger won best actress for her role in ‘Judy’ and Joaquin Phoenix won the best actor at the 77th Golden Globe Awards. The Golden Globe Awards 2020 were conferred on January 5, 2020 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

? Adani Group”s port developing arm Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone will acquire 75 per cent stake in Krishnapatnam Port Company.
