? “Swadeshi Microprocessor ChallengeInnovate Solutions for #Aatmanirbhar Bharat” has been launched by the Union Minister of Law & Justice, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology, Ravi Shankar Prasad. It aims to invite innovators, startups and students to use two microprocessors namely “SHAKTI (32 bit) and VEGA (64 bit)” to develop various technology products.

? HSBC India on Thursday launched a “green deposit programme”, exclusively for corporate clients, under which deposits will be used by the bank to finance green initiatives and environment friendly projects. The deposit scheme will come in the form of a term deposit, which typically attracts higher interests as compared to savings deposits.

? Google on Wednesday announced that it has launched a separate app for job seekers in India called the Kormo Jobs app. The search giant aims to provide jobs to thousands of people who have lost their jobs during the coronavirus and young professionals who are looking for jobs. The platform launched by Google aims at providing entry-level jobs.

? Aarogya Setu’s new feature called ‘Open API Service’ to help organisations get health status of staff, other users.

? United Nations observes 21st August every year as International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism.

? Earth Overshoot Day observed on August 22; the day comes when humanity’s demand for ecological resources and services exceeds what Earth can regenerate in a given year.

? Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan has launched an interactive first-of-its-kind game on COVID-19, the Corona Fighters. The Minister yesterday also launched two new videos urging adherence to key COVID Appropriate Behaviours.

? China’s BeiDou navigation system is to be adopted by Pakistan for both military and civilian purpose, ending the country’s dependence on US-based GPS. This is part of Pakistan and China’s defence and strategic cooperation.

? Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog and Business Sweden on behalf of India Sweden Healthcare Innovation Centre has signed a virtual Statement of Intent (SoI) to expand the culture of innovation in the country. The partnership aims to encourage the disruptive potential of Indian entrepreneurs, and to give impetus to the vibrant start-up ecosystem across the country.

? The World Senior Citizen Day is observed globally on 21st August every year.

? The INOX group will be the official sponsor of the Indian team for the rescheduled Tokyo Olympics, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) announced on Thursday.

? Table tennis player Manika Batra, who will be conferred with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award this year, said she is honoured and ‘looking forward to bring more laurels’ for the country. Manika had a successful 2018 when she won gold in the Commonwealth Games and bronze in the Asian Games.

? Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma will be conferred the Arjuna Award for year 2020.
