? The World Sleep Day was celebrated on March 13, 2020. The first-ever World Sleep Day was observed on March 14, 2008. This day highlights the benefits of sleep for human body.

? Byju Classes’ founder Byju Raveendran and Zomato’s co-founder Gaurav Gupta are among the five Indians named by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in its new list of 115 Young Global Leaders. The other three Indians on the list are- Tara Singh Vachani (CEO of Antara Senior Living), Vinati Mutreja (Managing Director and CEO, Vinati Organics Limited) and Swapan Mehra (CEO, Iora Ecological Solutions).

? Lt Gen KJS Dhillon will take over the post of Director-General Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) and Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Intelligence). DIA and DCIDS is a department that comes under the Chief of Defence Staff in the newly created Department of Military Affairs.

? President Ram Nath Kovind gave away the Nari Shakti Puraskar to 15 women in Rashtrapati Bhawan on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

? The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has launched ‘NIGHA’ app to ensure ‘clean and healthy’ elections by curbing the use of money and alcohol in the upcoming local body elections.

? Defending champions Australia breezed to their record fifth ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title, outclassing India by 85 runs in the summit clash at the MCG.

? The World Health Organization has officially declared COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus as a pandemic as it spreads freely in more than 100 countries around the world.

? National team captains Manpreet Singh and Rani Rampal won the Dhruv Batra Player of the Year Award 2019 in the men”s and women”s categories respectively at the third Hockey India Annual Awards.

? Geneva-based WEF announcing the list of ‘change-makers’ from as many as 52 countries are working in areas ranging from revamping of health systems to investigating corruption while using their power of the under 40s to change the world.

? India got ‘C’ ranking in the Animal Protection Index 2020 along with other countries like Spain, New Zealand, France and Mexico.  India is the first Asian country to ban the import of cosmetic products that were tested on animals. India had banned the use of cosmetic products on animals in 2013.

? Indian runner (400m) Prachi has been provisionally suspended after testing positive for the presence of a steroid Oxandrolone, the National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) said.

? India was ranked 46th in the Inclusive Internet Index 2020 released by the Economist Intelligence Unit, while Pakistan is ranked 76th. This list includes 100 countries of the world.

? The Uttar Pradesh state government has launched three schemes to enable skill development and employment generation for the youth in the state. The state will also be deploying ”Arogya Mitras” at all primary health centres to make people aware about the government health schemes.

? On International Women’s Day, writer-director Tahira Kashyap Khurrana announced her new book “The 12 Commandments Of Being A Woman”.

? Facebook has recently launched Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative in India called ‘Pragati’. The purpose of this initiative is to promote women entrepreneurship in India.

? The Union Government has revised the deadline to submit interest bids to buy 100 percent stake in Air India to April 30, 2020. The previous deadline was March 17.

? E-commerce major Amazon is the most desired internet brand in India, followed by Google and Facebook, according to a TRA Research survey.

? The Union Government has approved 4 percent hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) provided to about 48 lakh central government employees and Dearness Relief provided to about 65 lakh pensioners.  The hike will be applicable from January 1, 2020.

? The Government of India has released a helpline for the coronavirus after the cases coming from different states in India. The World Health Organization (WHO) has already declared it a pandemic.

? Ride-hailing major Uber has announced a partnership with Breakthrough, a non-profit organisation to help end gender-based violence across the country.

? Former J&K Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah’s preventive detention order was revoked by the Jammu and Kashmir administration on March 13, 2020.  He was kept under preventive detention since August 5, 2019 when the special status of the state was withdrawn by the centre.

? Shafali Verma became the youngest player to play in the final of any cricket World Cup.

? The second ODI between India and South Africa to be held in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh will be the first international match to be played without an audience. The third ODI to be played in Eden Gardens will also be played in an empty stadium.
