? The World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic on March 11, 2020, triggering global travel bans. The deadly Covid-19 virus has rapidly spread to more than 121,000 people in over 114 countries across the world.

? PhonePe has tied up with ICICI Bank for UPI transactions. PhonePe earlier partnered with Yes Bank, but after YES Bank has been placed under moratorium by Reserve Bank of India due to which UPI transactions at PhonePe got disrupted.

? University of Ranchi launched its own Community Radio Station RADIO KHANCHI 90.4 FM Aap Sabka Radio on the occassion of International Women’s Day.

? President Ram Nath Kovind administered the oath of office to Information Commissioner Bimal Julka as the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) in the Central Information Commission.

? Government of Indian is planning to have at least one Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya JanAushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) Kendra in each block of India. The above plans are to be executed successfully by the end of year 2020. The above announcement was made during the ‘Jan Aushadhi Diwas’ celebrations held in Kathua, Jammu & Kashmir.

? President Donald Trump has announced a major staff overhaul, naming Rep. Mark Meadows as his new chief of staff and replacing Mick Mulvaney.

? Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor V Praveen Rao has won the 7th Dr MS Swaminathan Award for the period 2017-2019.

? BJP-led Assam government announced free rice and electricity in Budget 2020-21.

? The High Court of Bangladesh has declared ‘Joy Bangla’ as the national slogan of Bangladesh. The court has directed the authorities to ensure that teachers and students use the slogan after assembly. The two-judge bench of High Court asked the authorities to take necessary steps so that all the people holding constitutional posts and state officials use ‘Joy Bangla’ after their speeches on national days and other appropriate occasions.

? US President Donald Trump has signed an $8.3 billion emergency spending bill to help tackle the coronavirus outbreak that has killed about 14 people in the country.

? Odisha will be the first state to have an exclusive department for Self Help Group (SHGs) called “Mission Shakti”. It is created for the development of women & is dedicated to all the women of Odisha.

? Google has shared the data on the most looked-up women on the Internet on the occasion of International Women’s Day i.e. on 8th of March 2020.

? Google India has launched a skill programme for women called ‘DigiPivot’ which is designed for women who are looking to return to their corporate careers after a break or simply planning to make mid-career shifts to digital marketing.

? The State government of Gujarat has adopted a solar rooftop scheme “Surya Gujarat.

? The Delhi government has invoked the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 and ordered the closure of all schools, colleges that are not conducting exams till March 31, 2020. All cinema halls will also be closed till the date.

? Indian MarTech Company, AdGlobal360 has been acquired by Japanese company Hakuhodo Inc for an undisclosed sum. Adglobal360 is India’s fastest growing MarTech Company headquartered in Gurugram, Haryana. The MarTech Company facilitates its customers with end to end digital solutions.

? The state government of Maharashtra has approved the new “happy hour” concept for the autorickshaws. Under the proposal, the fares of autos will be slashed by 15 percent between 12-4 pm. The decision will not apply to local taxis and app-based taxis.

? The World Health Organization has officially declared COVID-19 as a pandemic as it spread freely to more than 100 countries around the world. A pandemic is declared when a new disease for which people do not have immunity spreads around the world beyond expectations. COVID-19 is a disease caused by the novel coronavirus which originated in China.

? The Himachal Pradesh government along with the Centre signed a loan agreement worth $80 million with the World Bank to boost agricultural productivity and improve water management practices in select gram panchayats.

? World Kidney Day is observed globally on the second Thursday of March every year. This year World Kidney Day is observed on 12th March 2020. The theme of the 2020 World Kidney day is “Kidney Health for Everyone Everywhere–from Prevention to Detection and Equitable Access to Care.”

? The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has launched ‘NIGHA’ app to ensure ‘clean and healthy’ elections. This would be done by curbing the use of money and alcohol in the upcoming local body elections. The Panchayat Raj Department has set up the NIGHA app to empower common citizens to lodge complaints seamlessly.

? India has been included in SIPRI’s list of global arms exporters for the first time. India was ranked 23rd in terms of arms exports, but the government’s move to boost arms sales abroad is likely to improve India’s ranking in terms of arms exports in the coming years.

? The traditional ‘Fagli’ festival was celebrated in Yangpa village of Kinnaur district, Himachal Pradesh to observe the “victory of good over evil”. This festival is celebrated to mark the end of winter or the beginning of spring. It is celebrated in the entire valley on the moonless night or Amavasya.

? Infosys and Qualcomm recently signed an agreement to develop smart city solutions in India. Infosys is an Indian software major while Qualcomm is a US-based chipmaker.

? Maharaja Ranjit Singh has been named as the “Greatest Leader of All Time” in a poll conducted by ‘BBC World Histories Magazine’. He was the 19th-century ruler of the Sikh Empire in India. Singh’s name was nominated by Lockwood, who is an assistant professor of history at the University of Alabama, as a modernising and uniting force, whose reign “marked a golden age for Punjab and north-west India”.

? Russia’s lower house Duma has approved a proposal that could extend Putin’s tenure for two more terms. Now, he can remain the President of the country until the year 2036.
