? The Central Government is implementing the flagship programme Poshan Abhiyan for improving the nutritional status of Indian citizens. This programme helps children, adolescents, pregnant women, and lactating mothers by leveraging technology. Tamil Nadu tops the list of the states in terms of the number of participants in the programme.

? UK’s Health Minister, Nadine Dorries tested positive for COVID-19 virus recently. The Minister had begun showing symptoms of the virus while signing a legislation regarding the outbreak on March 6. She is the first UK Parliamentarian to have been infected by the deadly virus.

? Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Zubin Irani has inaugurated the “National Conference on Women in Police and CAPFs (Central Armed Police Forces)”. The national conference was held in New Delhi and was organized by the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR & D). During the conference, a hand-out- ‘BPR & D Mirror- Gender Bender’ and a book titled “To Greater Heights” was also released by Smriti Irani.

? Afghanistan saw double swearing-in on March 10, 2020 with incumbent President Ashraf Ghani sworn in for a second term and his rival Abdullah Abdullah also sworn in a parallel inauguration.

? Moody’s Investors Service stated that G-20 countries are expected to grow by 2.1% in 2020. Moody’s cuts 0.3 percentage points lower than its previous forecast, as the global spread of the coronavirus, is resulting in simultaneous supply and demand shocks.

? Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries Ltd, has lost the crown of Asia’s richest man as RIL has faced a sharp drop in share prices. Now, Jack Ma, co-founder and former executive chairman of Alibaba Group, is the richest man in Asia.

? An exclusive department for Self Help Group (SHGs) called “Mission Shakti” will be openend in Odisha. With this, Odisha will become the first state to have such kind of department. It aims for the development of women & is dedicated to all the women of Odisha.

? Kerala Government has decided to keep all the cinema theaters closed from March 11-31, 2020. This decision has been taken at a meeting of cinema organizations in Kochi to stop spread of novel coronavirus. The state has reported 17 confirmed cases as of March 11.

? State of Andhra Pradesh ranked 1st in the country for overall implementation of Poshan Abhiyan as per the recent report shared by NITI Aayog.

? The CISF was established on March 10, 1969 in India under the CISF Act, 1968. Therefore, the Foundation Day of the Central Industrial Security Force is observed every year on 10 March in India.

? Nupur Kulshrestha becomes the first woman to be promoted as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Indian Coast Guard. She joined Indian Coast Guard in 1999. The Indian Coast Guard is a multi-mission organization, conducting round-the-year real-life operations at sea.

? Former Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the presence of BJP President J P Nadda on March 11, 2020. He had officially resigned from the Indian National Congress on March 9 after serving the party for nearly 18 years. He had joined the party in December 2001.

? Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor V Praveen Rao has won the 7th Dr MS Swaminathan Award. He has won the award for the period 2017-2019. He has been awarded for his contributions in the fields of agricultural research, teaching, extension and administration. Praveen Rao handled 13 research & 6 consultancy projects on micro-irrigation in India, Israel and South Africa.

? Arunachal Pradesh has suspended the entry of foreigners amid the rising threat of coronavirus in India. The state government has stopped issuing the Protected Area Permit to foreigners.

? An exhibition titled “Jallianwala Bagh” is scheduled to be held in New Delhi. “Jallianwala Bagh” exhibition will be inaugurated by Culture Minister Prahlad Singh Patel on the occasion of 130th Foundation Day of National Archives of India (NAI). The exhibition aims to commemorate the centenary of Jallianwala Bagh Massacre covering a period from 1915 to 1950. This exhibition will be based on the original documents.

? Gujarat has topped the list for domestic solar rooftop installations with 64% of domestic solar installations. Nearly 50,915 systems being fixed on domestic rooftops in the State as on March 2, 2020. The State government of Gujarat has adopted a solar rooftop scheme “Surya Gujarat” to cover about eight lakh domestic electricity consumers under the scheme by 2022.

? Former India opener Wasim Jaffer has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. He made his Test and ODI debut for India against South Africa in 2006. He has represented India in 31 Tests, scoring 1,944 runs at an average of 34.11.

? Indian badminton player PV Sindhu has been voted as the BBC Indian Sports Woman of the Year 2019. PV Sindhu won the badminton world championship in Switzerland last year. She became the first Indian woman player to do so.
