? India and Maldives signed a contract on August 10, 2020 for development of five eco-tourism zones in Addu atoll of the island nation. The eco-tourism zones are part of grant projects being implemented under the High-Impact Community Development project (HICDP) scheme that involves total grant assistance of USD 5.5 million to the Maldives.

? United Nations observes the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples on 09th August every year.

? Russia is all set to launch the world’s first COVID-19 vaccine on August 12, 2020. The news of Russia registering its first vaccine against the virus was announced earlier on August 8 by Oleg Gridnev, Deputy Health Minister.

? Mauritius has declared a “state of environmental emergency” as a Japanese bulk carrier “MV Wakashio” ran aground on a reef, leaking tons of fuel into the surrounding waters.

? International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples or World Tribal Day was observed on August 9, 2020.

? The World Biofuel day was celebrated by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on August 10, 2020 with the theme “Biofuels towards Atmanirbhar Bharat”. The day is observed every year on August 10 to create awareness about the importance of non-fossil fuels as an alternative to conventional fossil fuels.

? Flipkart has signed an MoU with One District, One Product scheme of the government of Uttar Pradesh to bring the artisans, weavers and craftsmen under the ODOP scheme into the scope of the “Flipkart Samarth” initiative.
