? Minister of Railways and Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Coal & Mines, Pralhad Joshi on August 9, 2020 dedicate Railway Museum at Hubballi, Karnataka to the Nation.

? Chhattisgarh’s Jagdalpur has become the first municipal corporation in the country to provide forest land rights certificates to people of an urban area.

? Mumbai has become the first city in India to have women symbols on traffic signals and signage. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has installed traffic signals that display female icons sporting triangular frock, a shift from the default representation of men.

? Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the submarine Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) connecting Chennai and Port Blair on August 10, 2020 via video conferencing. Under the project, a 2,300 km long optical fibre cable has been laid undersea between the two cities that will help enhance telecom and Broadband connectivity in Andaman and Nicobar islands.

? The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on August 9, 2020 said it has been awarded the ‘Food System Vision Prize’ by the Rockefeller Foundation of US for its ‘Eat Right India’ movement’s vision, along with nine other finalists.

? President Ram Nath Kovind honoured and felicitated 202 freedom fighters from across the country on August 9, 2020 on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of Quit India Day.

? International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples (World Tribal Day) was observed on August 9, 2020. This year’s theme is ‘COVID-19 and indigenous peoples’ resilience’.

? Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched the Atmanirbhar Bharat Saptah on August 10, 2020. The special week promotes Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to create a self-reliant India with an increased focus on local manufacturing and production.

? The International Cricket Council on August 7, 2020 announced that the postponed ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 will now be held in Australia in 2022. The T20 World Cup 2021, which was scheduled in India, will take place as planned.
