? Odisha has become the first state to extend the 21-day lockdown till April 30, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

? The Centre on April 9, 2020 approved the Rs 15,000 crore COVID-19 Emergency Response and Health System Preparedness package aimed at boosting national and state health systems to support procurement of essential medical equipment and drugs, and strengthening of surveillance activities. The 100% centrally funded package will be implemented in three phases from January 2020 to March 2024.

? Larsen & Toubro (L&T) signs agreement with the Indian Army for setting up an advanced IT-enabled system to operate the Armed Forces network under the Network of Spectrum (NFS).

? The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Pune on April 9, 2020 announced two innovations — Digital IR Thermometer and oxygen enrichment unit — that can help in the mitigation of the coronavirus outbreak.

? Arunachal Pradesh government has launched an app called “COVIDCARE” for the people who are quarantined, asymptomatic or COVID-19 patients, facilitating them various facilities through the app.

? The country’s industrial output grew by 4.5% in February, mainly on account of higher output in mining, manufacturing and electricity sector, government data showed on April 9, 2020. The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) had grown by 0.2% in February 2019.

? Forbes has launched the 34th annual world’s billionaires list named as “The Richest in 2020”.

? Reserve Bank of India on April 9, 2020 launched a Twitter campaign urging bank customers to adopt digital modes of payment amid COVID-19 crisis. The face of the campaign is actor Amitabh Bachchan.

? The government is planning to allow subscribers of the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) for a partial withdrawal from employees’ contribution. This was stated by Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority of India (PFRDA) Chairman Supratim Bandyopadhyay.

? India’s GDP growth in 2020-21 is expected to slow down to 4.8% because of COVID-19 pandemic, the UN said in its ‘Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) 2020 report. India’s GDP growth for 2019-2020 was estimated at 5% and the forecast for 2021-22 is 5.1%.

? The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) celebrated the Play True Day on April 9, 2020. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year WADA celebrated the day around the theme ‘Play Safe on Play True Day 2020’.
